When the stakes are too high to practise in the field, the practice environment itself must be engineered with equal rigour.
In a high-hazard operation, the scenarios that most need rehearsing are precisely the ones that cannot be rehearsed live. That is not an argument for simulation as a training aid; it is an argument for treating the simulator as part of the safety system.
Fidelity is a safety requirement, not a production value
A simulated environment that behaves differently from the plant teaches the wrong reflex, and a wrong reflex rehearsed under pressure is worse than no rehearsal at all. Fidelity therefore has to be specified against the plant's own operating data, not against how convincing it looks in a demonstration.
Standardisation across sites
The value compounds when every site rehearses the same scenario to the same standard. That is an engineering and governance problem long before it is a headset problem.
